JESSICA

This is the start of a new series of testimonials from my clients. Jessica is a busy student who wanted to lose those last 10-20 lbs, and we saw a great deal of success using my group coaching. I'll let her words tell the story:

Please summarize your coaching experience: I had a great experience with Bonnie and coaching. It was really what I needed to get myself back on track after months of not eating correctly. She helped me figure out calories and macros and was always there to answer questions.
What do you like most about Just Eat It coaching? I really enjoyed the accountability aspect. It was great checking in every week to discuss how I was doing and see if I had any questions. It was also really nice that on those days where I had eaten a recipe that wasn’t so healthy, that Bonnie provided feedback on how to make it a bit healthier without losing the taste that I love.
What did you learn from this experience? I learned that it is okay to mess up sometimes. In the past I would get very bummed out after eating something I shouldn’t or going over my calories. Bonnie taught me that it wasn’t the end of the world and I could always make it up or that it was just one day.

How has what we have achieved changed other areas of your life? I feel more confident. Knowing that I can still enjoy food and yet do amazing things with my body has made me more confident in my day to day life.
How has your relationship with food evolved? I think I have a better relationship with food than I did 12 weeks ago. I am less inclined to eat when bored these days. I also feel much friendlier to food now. I know that going over or under on any particular day isn’t going to ruin the rest of my progress which has allowed for a healthier relationship with food.
Is there anything else you would like to add? I would absolutely recommend the group coaching for anyone who is considering it. It was nice to see that I wasn’t the only one struggling with certain things. It was also nice to see how others tackled a certain problem or had something come up and how they fixed it. It made it possible for me to implement the same solution if the issue arose for me as well. Overall, this was a really great experience for me.

KATIE

Please summarize your coaching experience:
I had a great experience with Bonnie! She was motivating and challenging and really helped me to understand more about food and how I can manipulate my intake to reach my goals, even around the holiday season! I was in the group-style coaching, so around the holidays and when my work schedule changed it was difficult for me to meet with the rest of my group, but Bonnie made sure to check in with me during the week at some point to see how I was doing.

What do you like most about Just Eat It coaching?
I loved that she was always available via Facebook Messenger, etc. to answer any questions I had. This was my first experience with a dietitian and I feel like I learned so much from her and her expertise.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learned how to enjoy the foods I still love, while being able to make smart choices that keep me on track to my goals.
How has what we have achieved changed other areas of your life?
I’ve lost almost twenty pounds since the beginning of my time with Bonnie, and it’s helped me to feel better and be more confident. I work in fitness, so being able to be a walking testament to the fact that it can be done has given me much more credibility with potential clients as well.

How has your relationship with food evolved?
My relationship with food has always been a little rocky. I’ve had periods of my life where food was my stressor, and other periods where food was the answer to my stress. Now, I can decide whether a food is “worth it” or not, rather than labeling things as good or bad. This viewpoint is much more sustainable and has dramatically improved my relationship with food.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am just so thankful for Bonnie’s help, and I definitely don’t think I could have done this without her. She’s absolutely awesome, and always has ideas on how to change things up to be more macro-friendly. Side note: they’re always delicious. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone I know who is interested in working with a dietitian.

JEN

Jen and I worked together for 12 weeks. She is a wonderful mom who cares about her kids more than anything. They liked to see Clyde when we skyped and say hello. But Jen did not have a great relationship with food, causing anxiety and guilt, which turned into binge eating. But the binge eating has mostly disappeared when we turned food into a friend instead of a foe. Read more in her words:

Please summarize your coaching experience:
This has been truly an amazing experience for me. I’ve lived my life under the control of food. My life completely revolved around ‘what am I going to eat next?’ Because of this, I’ve been a yo-yo dieter my entire life, with no real success. I’ve historically had a horrible relationship with food, which led to binge eating and major weight fluctuations. Until now.

Bonnie has taught me to love myself, not the food. Trying to make smarter food choices, I researched as much as possible on exactly what to eat, but I never got it completely right. Bonnie not only taught me how to make the right food choices for me, but why those choices were the best for me. Her information is based on fact and science, and doesn’t follow the fad diet of the week. Her nutritional plan was tailored just for me, and I truly felt like she cared about my well being. For the first time in my life, I feel like I have complete control over food, and I can finally make the right food choices. I’m at the gym every day, and I’m dedicated to changing my lifestyle. Just Eat It coaching was the missing puzzle piece that I needed in order to make this venture a success!

What do you like most about Just Eat It coaching?
What I liked most about Just Eat It coaching was the attention to my personal history and nutritional goals. I felt like the nutritional plan was specifically tailored to my needs, and wasn’t just a blanket diet plan for the masses.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learned to choose the right foods for my needs, to give myself permission to enjoy some foods without making them the ‘enemy’, and most importantly, which foods were smart choices and why.

How has your relationship with food evolved?
Food is my friend now, not my enemy. I quit giving food power over me, and my binging has slowed almost to a halt. Yay!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you Bonnie, you’ve been amazing. ☺

AMANDA

Please summarize your coaching experience:
Bonnie and I met via skype about every other week and talked for about 30 mins about my goals. She was very attentive and a great listener. She was great at helping me problem solve things that I was struggling with and give me ideas for new foods or options to try. Overall I felt very supported by Bonnie, she is very easy to talk to and open up to.
What do you like most about Just Eat It coaching?
I really enjoyed learning new ways to make healthier versions of some of my favorite treats. She gave me a great recipe for protein cheesecake that has become a new go to favorite to cure my sweet tooth.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learned that no matter how much support I have, ultimately it is up to me to hold myself and accountable and make the right choices. I might have all the resources available to me and still struggle if I don’t give it my all and make a 100% commitment to bettering my health.
How has what we have achieved changed other areas of your life?
When I am on top of my health and eating well, I sleep much better and I also am able to focus much better at work. I am a much more productive person when I am eating whole foods and balanced meals rather than dealing with sugar crashes and heartburn from unhealthy options.
How has your relationship with food evolved?
I am learning to stop depending on food to make me feel better if I’m having a bad day or to comfort me when I’m sad. Overall, I have become less of an emotional eater and am learning to use food mostly as a tool to fuel my body. It is something that I am having to unlearn after years and years of turning to food for comfort, but I can definitely see improvements happening.

CELESTE

Bonnie is a kind, thoughtful and creative nutritional coach-- exactly the kind of person you need when recovering from bulimia. When I developed an eating disorder, I completely lost touch with how to feed and nourish myself. As part of my recovery, Bonnie has been an immense help with bringing me back to reality and helping me relearn how to eat, as well as giving me new strategies to deal with my anxieties and worries related to eating. Bonnie does not sugar coat her advice, but rather helps me navigate the potential pitfalls by reigning in how much and how fast I try new things.

Having Bonnie on my side with regular weekly one-on-one coaching sessions was a godsend! During our time together my life went through a few major changes: moving, new career, living with my significant other-- all of which we tackled together head-on. We looked at bulk meal strategies, recipe substitutions, work lunch planning, and how to deal with a chicken-wing-loving-boyfriend.

I’m grateful for all the advice I received from Bonnie (and her super cute dog) and will continue to seek her guidance in the future as my goals move from recovering from an eating disorder to getting stronger and fine-tuning my nutritional goals.

CAN YOU SUMMARIZE YOUR COACHING EXPERIENCE?
We used food elimination and reintroduction methods to figure out what foods were making my stomach an angry force to be reckoned with. :P

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT JUST EAT IT COACHING?

Getting my body back on track! I had a couple episodes of extreme pain and GI issues, and it was so relieving (pun not intended) to finally have figured out which foods were causing issues, and how I can prevent those issues in the future.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?

I learned which foods were causing me problems, and how to use the process of elimination and reintroduction in order to figure out any problem foods in the future. I was also surprised to learn that pesticides and stress levels can further aggravate any existing issues. I’m looking forward to a pain-free future!!!!!

HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD EVOLVED?

I now have a much better understanding of what triggers my GI problems, and I’m much more conscious of what I’m eating and what ingredients go into my food. My cabinet is full of so many more gluten-free items now!

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?

I just want to thank you for such a wonderful experience. I wouldn’t have considered talking to a nutritionist about the issue I was having, as I was still slightly in denial that my beloved gluten could be causing me so many problems. In the end, I learned so much about food and my body, and the experience was so positive. You made the process so simple and easy to understand, and always acknowledged and answered my questions and concerns. I’m so grateful for the opportunity!
